How the Bears won
- Chicago trailed 21-14 at halftime (21-17 after Cairo Santos' 47-yarder at the buzzer) and scored 14 unanswered third-quarter points — DJ Moore's 25-yard TD and Kyle Monangai's 2-yard run — to go up 31-21. [source]
- Caleb Williams went 19-of-35 for 239 yards and 3 touchdowns (104.3 rating) with no interceptions, but a T.J. Watt sack in the end zone produced a fumble that Nick Herbig recovered for a Pittsburgh touchdown. [source]
- DJ Moore caught 5 passes for 64 yards and two touchdowns (5 and 25 yards), his first multi-TD game since Week 5 of 2024, and pushed past 8,000 career receiving yards. [source]
- Montez Sweat's strip sack of Mason Rudolph (recovered at the Chicago 46) set up Monangai's touchdown; Sweat finished with 2 sacks, 2 QB hits and 3 tackles for loss. [source]
- Nahshon Wright made a backward diving interception of a Rudolph pass intended for DK Metcalf — his fifth of the season, tying Kevin Byard for the league lead — and the Bears scored touchdowns after both takeaways. [source]
- Rudolph, starting for the injured Aaron Rodgers, cut it to 31-28 with a 3-yard TD to Pat Freiermuth with 6:27 left; the defense then stuffed Connor Heyward on a fourth-and-1 tush push at the Chicago 30 and Jaquan Brisker batted away Rudolph's fourth-and-6 pass with 17 seconds left. [source]
- Johnson went for it on fourth-and-1 from his own 39 in the second half and Williams converted with an 8-yard run; Chicago was 3-for-3 in the red zone. [source]
- The Bears were missing six defensive regulars (including Jaylon Johnson, Tremaine Edmunds, T.J. Edwards and Kyler Gordon) and lost Tyrique Stevenson, Ruben Hyppolite II and Dominique Robinson during the game, yet held Pittsburgh to 7 points and 134 yards in the second half. [source]
- Pittsburgh's first-quarter score came on a 6-yard DK Metcalf run capping a 13-play, 95-yard drive; a 55-yard Kenneth Gainwell run off a tush push set up Jaylen Warren's 1-yard TD late in the first half. [source]
- The fourth straight win (eighth in nine games) moved Chicago to 8-3, alone atop the NFC North ahead of Green Bay (7-3-1) and Detroit (7-4) — and for once did not require a last-minute comeback. [source]
The chant after this one
Every win ends the same way: Johnson gathers the room, calls for quiet, and leads the four lines one at a time with the whole team answering. This was chant No. 9 of the Johnson era.
- Johnson gave a game ball to fill-in linebacker D'Marco Jackson, credited with 15 tackles, telling the room Jackson wore the green dot and 'had us going all game long.' [source]
- The theme of the speech was 'It takes a village': Johnson credited players, coaches and the training staff, noted the depth was being tested with the linebackers out, and praised backups such as Luke Newman (for Jonah Jackson) and Ozzy Trapilo (for Theo Benedet) for stepping in. [source]
- The Bears' official YouTube clip of the speech is titled 'It takes a village #goodbetterbest #victory #chicagobears'; a companion postgame short was captioned 'Next man up mentality.' [source]
- At his press conference Johnson praised the depth players, saying the team responded to adversity without complaining. [source]
