How the Bears won
- Cairo Santos drilled a 48-yard field goal as time expired for the win, finishing 4-of-5 (38, 54, 38, 48) with a 45-yard miss in the fourth quarter that would have made it a two-score game. [source]
- After J.J. McCarthy's 15-yard touchdown to Jordan Addison put Minnesota up 17-16 with 50 seconds left, Devin Duvernay returned the kickoff 56 yards to the Vikings' 40 — his longest of the season — and D'Andre Swift carried three times for nine yards before Johnson called timeout with four seconds remaining. [source]
- Chicago built a 16-3 lead through three quarters on Kyle Monangai's 1-yard touchdown (capping a 15-play, 74-yard drive) and three Santos field goals, then watched Jordan Mason's 16-yard TD run and the Addison score erase it. [source]
- Kevin Byard intercepted McCarthy and returned it 23 yards to the Minnesota 25 — his NFL-leading fifth pick of the season — setting up a field goal for a 10-3 lead. [source]
- Nahshon Wright, released by Minnesota in April and signed by Chicago a day later, made a leaping end-zone interception with 35 seconds left in the half; it was his second pick against his former team this season after a 74-yard pick-six in the opener. [source]
- Wright played three days after his former Laney College coach John Beam (of Netflix's 'Last Chance U') was shot and killed in Oakland; he dropped to a knee after the interception, said afterward that Beam 'was behind me today,' served as an honorary captain, and planned to give the ball to Beam's family. - Caleb Williams went 16-of-32 for 193 yards with four carries for 26 yards; Swift ran 21 times for 90 yards, 47 of them in the fourth quarter. [source]
- Tight ends Cole Kmet (5-45) and Colston Loveland (3-40, including a 24-yarder in the fourth quarter) accounted for 8 catches on 9 targets; punter Tory Taylor averaged 47.7 yards. [source]
- It was Chicago's third straight last-minute win (Bengals, Giants, Vikings) and fifth late fourth-quarter rally of the season; the Bears moved to 7-3 and, with Philadelphia beating Detroit, into sole possession of first place in the NFC North. [source]
- The result avenged the Week 1 Monday night loss in which the Bears led Minnesota 17-6 entering the fourth quarter and fell 27-24. [source]
The chant after this one
Every win ends the same way: Johnson gathers the room, calls for quiet, and leads the four lines one at a time with the whole team answering. This was chant No. 8 of the Johnson era.
- Johnson gave game balls to kick returner Devin Duvernay, kicker Cairo Santos and team president Kevin Warren — an early birthday present for Warren, who had a hand in building U.S. Bank Stadium during his Vikings tenure. [source]
- Johnson told the team it was 7-3 with its first division win, recalled how the Week 1 meeting went 'sideways' after a lead, said it took all three phases to close this one out, and promised they'd watch the tape together — but only after a Victory Monday. [source]
- It was the seventh 'Good, Better, Best' speech of the season and the first following a divisional win; the Bears posted the clip to social media with the caption about watching the tape after Victory Monday. [source]
- Johnson named Wright the team's game captain for the week and said the interception against his former team meant a great deal to him. [source]
