How the Bears won
- Caleb Williams returned from a hamstring injury that cost him three games and completed his first 12 passes, finishing 30-of-36 for 305 yards, a touchdown, no turnovers and a 111.2 passer rating. [source]
- Williams hit Colston Loveland for a 14-yard touchdown on the opening drive, and the Bears were 10-for-10 passing for 122 yards across their first two possessions, outgaining Atlanta 154–3 in the first quarter. [source]
- The opening drive featured a hook-and-lateral on third-and-11: Williams to Rome Odunze, who pitched to Roschon Johnson for a 12-yard gain and a first down. [source]
- Kyler Gordon, activated from the PUP list the day before the game after a calf injury, made his season debut with three sacks and two forced fumbles, including the strip-sack of Michael Penix Jr. with 2:54 left that Devin Bush recovered to seal the win. [source]
- D'Andre Swift scored twice on short runs (4 and 2 yards) and Roschon Johnson added a 4-yard TD; Cairo Santos' 50-yard field goal pushed the lead to 31-7 in the third quarter. [source]
- Special teams produced two takeaways on Zachariah Branch: Josh Blackwell recovered a muffed punt at the Atlanta 10, and Zavier Scott stripped Branch on a kickoff with Nick McCloud recovering at the 31. [source]
- Atlanta rallied from 31-7 with two Kyle Pitts touchdown catches and two-point conversions to Branch and Drake London, cutting it to 31-23 with 5:41 left after a Roschon Johnson fumble. [source]
- Luther Burden III led the Bears with 8 catches for 95 yards; Loveland had 6 for 65 and the TD. Penix finished 19-of-33 for 225 yards and three touchdowns. [source]
- The Bears were flagged 12 times for 133 yards and had receiver Jahdae Walker ejected in the fourth quarter for a personal foul. [source]
- With Montez Sweat, Dayo Odeyingbo, T.J. Edwards and Tyrique Stevenson out or limited, Chicago rotated out most of its first-string defense while leading 31-7. [source]
- The win, one week after a 31-7 loss at Green Bay, moved the Bears to 4-2 and dropped Atlanta to 2-4; Johnson called the game 'one of those crossroads.' It also fell on what would have been Mike Ditka's 87th birthday. [source]
The chant after this one
Every win ends the same way: Johnson gathers the room, calls for quiet, and leads the four lines one at a time with the whole team answering. This was chant No. 17 of the Johnson era.
- Johnson gave game balls in the locker room to Caleb Williams (305 yards in his return) and Kyler Gordon (three sacks, two forced fumbles in his first game action in roughly nine months). [source]
- A third game ball went, on the team plane, to defensive tackle Grady Jarrett, an Atlanta-area native who spent his first 10 NFL seasons with the Falcons. [source]
- In the speech Johnson credited all three phases rather than singling anyone out, saying the plan required offense, defense and special teams to contribute and that the team's identity and play style had to show up after the Packers loss. [source]
- Williams addressed the room about the weeks he spent sidelined, thanked teammates across units and closed with 'It's Bears over everybody.' [source]
- Johnson punctuated the Good-Better-Best chant with a leg-shaking celebration dance in the visiting locker room, which the Sun-Times described as the coach being 'back in his bag.' [source]
- The team posted the full speech on chicagobears.com as 'Ben Johnson postgame locker room speech after win over Falcons' with the description 'Good. Better. Best.' [source]
